"The elements of the work that satisfied me was teamwork, the site design, and building design. I would like to improve the communicating skills in our team, using a mentor to solve our problems, [and] getting really involved in the project using resource[s] everywhere as possible. We would find all our solutions to our problems."
Freshman Project Manager Intern "I was satisfied with our teamwork and with everyone putting in their part. I would like to improve on our communicating skills because if someone was stuck or needed help they wouldn't really ask. One way we can start improving our communicating skills is by asking each other if they need help and correct each other when you see something wrong." Freshman Intern "During the work process of designing our healthcare center as part of our internnect project, we encountered many interesting things. I especially like the fact that we designed something that could possibly contribute to the improvement of our city. Some things i'd improve on are the [selection] of materials and the agreement on the final design because we were constantly making changes after we approved the final. Next time our design will no longer be changed unless it is to meet certain requirements." Freshman Intern "I really enjoyed working with the students to help them with this project. I liked that they were able to work independently for the most part. I am enjoying working with them on their presentation skills. I like the real-world context this project gives to their presentations. I would also like to see how this might work with more than one team or a multiple grade level team. Our academy has already started to plan how this and other projects will look next year as project-based instruction is an integral part of the linked learning approach." "The mentorship model that was created was the most satisfying part of this project, whether through [the creators] or through past professors and current college students, my learners have glimpsed part of their future. I was impressed with [the] drive and vision. Would like to see responsibilities spread over a larger corporate area... Would the vision continue without [the] drive? Next steps are to expand authentic experiences with our learners in other ways." "The satisfying part of this process was watching the students grow and develop as a team [and watching] their ability to work together even though they come from different backgrounds and ability levels. They were able to find each others' strengths and use them to develop the project that they did. What i would improve upon is being able to provide more time for them to complete this type of project. Next steps for our groups, i feel, is better utilizing their professional mentors when gathering research information for their project. We will also be working on developing their group and management skills." Principal Externs - Various Learning Facilitators |

"The creative process is definitely the most satisfying part of this program. When you start to develop a building based off a philosophy it just feels good to make that story. I would like to work on understanding the structure of architecture so that the buildings can be more real. I'm going to continue to work on architecture as a major and learn a little more about structure with the help of physics. It is important because this is what i love to do and can hopefully make a life out of it."
Senior Project Manager Intern "The project is extremely creative and beneficial. The fact that students get to work with college students, mentors, and professionals is the most beneficial part of this project along with the freedom given to teams in designing their own programs." Junior Intern "What satisfied me the most was watching my students grow together in their ability to work together, reach out to each other for help, learn from each other, and improve their ability to trust their 'co-workers'. This year, the issues of process i would like most to see changed are: (a) Add back a 2nd 'milestone' meeting but keep the collaborate meetings that were added this year (b) Equalize presenting times at the collaborative meetings (c) Have a few more days between the overnight cal poly trip and the oral presentations - so there is adequate time to adjust based on input received from cal poly students and professor I will push students harder earlier, so that more time for creating will exist." "One element that is satisfying from the work was going to see what the students at Cal Poly [San Luis Lbispo] learned. I would like to improve my speech and socializing skills."
Sophomore Project Manager Intern "The elements of work process that are satisfying to me are the process of learning from others that have already experienced it. I also like that i was able to meet actual students that do this everyday and can get their feedback. The elements i would like to improve on is thinking [and designing] more creatively. I also want to improve on my ability to connect more than one idea and put them together as one. It is important because i know that i will be applying it to my future and will benefit me in life." "The most satisfying part of this project was the design process. I didn't know exactly the process you have to go through before you can actually design. After the whole process you have to actually think of why the building will be constructed a certain way, and what it will serve for... The most important part of this process is the organizational skills you have. For this project to be a success, you have to be organized because you also have to know how to keep a team integrated and how to manage the group to have everything completed."
Sophomore Project Manager Intern "The elements that were especially satisfying to me were the fact that i have to frequently meet with my fellow peers. They allowed me to have a connection with them which helps me have a better understanding on how they think. The next steps that i could take for improvement is to make sure [that i know] what my fellow peers are working on in the project... This is very important when it comes to the work force." Sophomore Intern "I enjoyed seeing the students develop their designs and model. The trips to the architecture department at cal poly [san luis obispo] were top notch. It was overall a good experience for students and gave them insight into what architects, engineers and project managers do. This year was very different from last, and i feel you have developed an excellent program. Some of the elements that make the project authentic also make it intimidating for new teams: technical jargon, number of mentors / types of mentors required. Make some of them easier to do/understand and you will likely have more schools participate. Focus on what is critical for authenticity." Principal Extern - Science Teacher |
